On February 20, 2016, we lost our dear friend and colleague, Leigh Coyle Anderson, Esq., after a yearlong battle with breast cancer; a battle she relentlessly and courageously fought to the very end.
Leigh was the valedictorian of her high school in Wisconsin. She later received her law degree from the University of Tennessee. In 2006, she married the love of her life, Dr. Erik Anderson. Together, they brought two wonderful children into this world.
Leigh was an outstanding and well-respected lawyer in our community. While she possessed so many superlative qualities as a lawyer, she was many times over a better mother, wife, friend and person. As a representative of her clients and this law firm, she exemplified integrity, skill, dedication and grace at all times. She routinely and proactively demonstrated her love, respect and empathy for friend and stranger alike, whether it be in her volunteer work at her children’s school and for the less fortunate in our society, rallying her fellow breast cancer comrades, advocating various quality of life improvements at local law firms or just by being Leigh. For all her excellence in these myriad ways, she was first and foremost an amazing and fully devoted mother and wife. Fortunately for all, her spirit lives on in her children.
Leigh will always be in our hearts, and the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. A finer person, we shall not know.
Cheri was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Relations at the University of Florida where she was President of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority and a member of the leadership honorary, Florida Blue Key. Cheri earned her law degree at the University of Miami School of Law.
For over 20 years, Cheri has gathered extensive experience representing insurance companies in various first party claims, including homeowner property matters involving storm, water, blasting and theft. In that context, she has served as SIU counsel, and conducted numerous EUO’s on claims of suspected fraud. Additionally, she has substantial experience defending a wide variety of third party tort claims.
A significant portion of Cheri’s litigation experience has also involved a variety of construction defense litigation, including the defense of design professionals. Cheri began handling large-scale litigation of construction defects claims and property insurance claims following Hurricane Andrew, which struck South Florida in 1992, including class actions, opt-out claims and subrogation matters.
Through her vast experience with first-party claims, Cheri is particularly well-suited to handle ECL claims, including those under Colorado’s statutory scheme, as well as the traditional bad faith tort litigation. She is not only mindful of the potential fraud and excess involved in claims, but also of the insurer’s duties to its insured.
